Interview with Rachael Robson-Green

Transformational Life & Leadership Coach

Tania: Do you sometimes feel that you were meant for more than this daily grind? How about living your life with intention and purpose, so you can step into your true, authentic self?

Intro – Have you ever taken time to think about who you really want to be, and what your purpose is? We’re so busy in our day to day lives that we often lose sight of how we want to be living.  It’s easy to feel stuck in a rut and lose sight of the big picture. There is often too much focus on small daily annoyances and less awareness of the positives. To change focus takes practice, and often the helping hand of a skilled coach.

In this blog I will be interviewing one of the best coaches I have come across – Rachael Robson-Green. I have worked with Rachael to help shift some negative mindset patterns and to help to be more confident. She has massively helped! It’s sometimes impossible to do this yourself, no matter how many self development books or trainings you attend!

Rachael used to work in a corporate career for 10 years and now offers transformational one to one coaching and accountability as a Life Coach, Executive Coach and NLP Practitioner.  She helps her clients to show up more authentically, live their purpose more fully and make the conscious choices that will transform the way they live, love and lead so that they show up as the truest version of themselves.

Rachael is organising an incredible Conscious Connection retreat in Italy, near Perugia, from 18th to 23rd June, which I am delighted to be assisting with, so I wanted to explain what this might involve and how it could be helpful, for those who haven’t yet experienced the wonder that is mindset coaching!

Tania: Question 1 – Why do you think coaching is important?

Rachael: In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in the small, day-to-day challenges and lose sight of the bigger picture. It can be challenging to break free from old habits and thought patterns and to adopt a new perspective on life. That’s where the guidance and support of a skilled coach can be incredibly valuable.

This starts with identifying, or reconnecting to, your values, passions, and the bigger vision you have for your life. Coaching provides the tools and support you need to make positive changes and cultivate a more positive mindset. By practicing gratitude and focusing on the positives in life, you can shift your perspective and begin to see new possibilities and opportunities. With the right mindset and support, you can start to create the life you truly desire – anything and everything is possible!

Tania: Question 2 – Why do you think that people mainly come to you for coaching?

Rachael: Generally people come to me for coaching because they are feeling stuck in some aspects of their lives and need help to get out of their own way.

They are often at a crossroads in their lives – this could look like career transition, or wanting to level up in terms of what they’re doing already- or to step more fully into their leadership and their business to create the results they want, or they want to shift into something that feels more meaningful to them.. more on purpose and fulfilling

They are also often too much in their head and in an exhausting loop of doing more and more.. with very little or no time taken for themselves and in a state of overwhelm or burnout.

Being high achievers by nature they’re often seeking a balance with everything they are managing as this is also a daily challenge.

They want to be able to create the results they want without the overwhelm but can’t see a way out of the loops themselves.

Tania: Question 3 – What are the main issues people want to address with coaching?

Rachael: I find they are usually experiencing one or all of these:

  1. Feeling stuck: They might feel like they’re not making progress in their life or career and don’t know how to move forward. Uncovering what is getting it the way – what’s underneath – is the first place to start before we look at what their key values are and re connecting with what they’re really passionate about
  • Lack of clarity: Sometimes people know what they want to achieve but don’t know how to get there. Often times my clients come to me feeling completely lost – in a transitional period in their lives – whether that’s is a career transition or levelling up some way in their business or professional life. Essentially they want to reconnect with more purposeful work and be able to really show up and shine rather than plying small. They also want to get greater clarity on what they really want and why, as well as get into more inspired and intentional action that will make it a reality.
  • Need accountability: When people try to make changes on their own, it can be easy to give up or lose motivation. A co-created coaching relationship helps to hold them accountable and keep them on track. Especially when we are working on creating positive habits and behaviours that shift their mindset every day so they can create the results they want.
  • Need support and encouragement: Making changes can be hard – especially as we are talking about years of subconscious programming that we are rewiring! –  and we are not designed to do this alone!…. Having someone to champion you, celebrate your wins and hold your hand if things haven’t gone as expected, is vital to be able to keep going and make the longer term shifts and transformation.

Ultimately, coaching is not just a valuable resource but a vital one, for people who want to make positive changes in their lives or careers but aren’t sure how to get started or stay on track.

Tania: Question 4 – Why do people struggle to adjust a negative mindset and work through these things themselves?

Rachael: There are several reasons why people may struggle to adjust a negative mindset and work through these issues themselves:

  • Lack of awareness: Sometimes, people may not be aware that their mindset is negative or that they need to work on their mindset. They may not realize that it’s their negative thought patterns that are impacting their lives and relationships. After all it’s our subconscious programming that runs the show 95% of the time and bringing this into the open and becoming aware of what has been limiting them is where they start to make real change.
  • Comfort in negativity: People may also become comfortable with their negative mindset and the associated emotions such as anger, sadness, or resentment. It can be hard to let go of these emotions and the associated thought patterns, even if they are not serving us well… we have been doing them for a long time and are a truly ingrained habit!
  • Fear of change: Adjusting a negative mindset requires making changes to our thought patterns and behaviours, which can be scary and uncomfortable. People often fear the unknown and are resistant to making changes, as the subconscious brain thinks this is what it needs to do to keep us safe. We are so used to being in our map of the world that we can’t see that there is a whole world of potential that exists beyond the edges!
  • Lack of skills or resources: Adjusting a negative mindset is challenging – we can’t often see what it is that keeps us stuck until we have someone challenging it and it’s not something we can do effectively for ourselves.
  • Emotional memories or trauma: Adjusting a negative mindset may also require addressing and working through past emotions and traumatic experiences . This can be a difficult and challenging process and requires professional support – whether that is through coaching or a specialised mental health therapist who can support with deep trauma.

Tania: Question 5 – What do you find are the main reasons why some people feel stuck or overwhelmed?

Rachael: There can be many reasons why people feel stuck or overwhelmed – It’s not hard to see why this is especially relevant right now with what is happening around us in our day-to-day lives.

People are trying even harder to balance work and home life, with the lines even more blurred due to the pandemic. It has shifted the working landscape forever and there is now a more blended approach, with working from home being a normal practice and companies struggling to manage teams in a productive way for everyone.

We also seem to be caught up in this perpetual “doing” mode which keeps us in a state of overwhelm and exhaustion. We want to keep up with the momentum now more than ever and not miss anything – and so we have overloaded our plates. We’re not giving ourselves enough time to rest, recover and reset, with the result being burnout …and breakdown.

There are a number of other general reasons people feel stuck too, which my clients often come to me with (including the reasons given under question 3):

  • Fear of failure: This fear can be paralyzing and prevent people from taking action. Fear of success is the other side of this and just as paralysing. It is often linked to the fear of failure, as success can bring about new challenges and expectations as people fear change and stepping outside their comfort zone. They also fear judgement and are often full of self-doubt, believing they are undeserving of success.
  • Perfectionism: People who strive for perfection may feel overwhelmed because they set unrealistic expectations for themselves. They may feel like they can’t move forward until everything is perfect, which can be a recipe for procrastination and indecision.
  • Lack of resources: People may feel stuck because they don’t have the resources they need to achieve their goals. This is often not having enough time to get everything done and feeling as if they are constantly playing catch-up.
  • Negative self-talk: People can feel overwhelmed because they’re constantly criticizing themselves or doubting their abilities. This negative self-talk can erode their confidence and make it hard to take action meaning that they get stuck in a fear and procrastination loop.

Tania: Question 6 – What’s the best daily habit someone could start introducing, to shift their energy?

Rachael: There are many daily habits I would suggest. Here are a few:

  1. Gratitude practice: Starting the day by focusing on things you’re grateful for can help shift your energy from negative to positive. You can write down three things you’re grateful for each morning, or simply take a few minutes to reflect on what you appreciate in your life.
  • Exercise: Shifting your body will help you to shift your mind, and physical activity can be a great way to boost your energy levels and improve your mood. Even a short walk or yoga session can help get your blood flowing and release endorphins.
  • Mindfulness or meditation: Practicing mindfulness or meditation can help you become more present and centred, reducing stress and anxiety. There are many apps and guided meditations available to help you get started.
  • Affirmations: Affirmations are positive statements that can help you shift your mindset and focus on what you want to achieve. You can write down affirmations that resonate with you and repeat them to yourself throughout the day.
  • Journaling: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be a powerful way to process emotions and gain clarity. You can use journaling prompts or simply free-write about whatever is on your mind.

Consistency is key, so try to make your chosen habit a part of your daily routine.

Tania: Question 7 – Why did you organise this Conscious Connection retreat in Italy in June? What are you hoping that people will get out of it?

Rachael: I came up with the idea for The Conscious Connection Retreat as a transformative, immersive and engaging journey to help people break through from what’s holding them back, reconnect with what’s in their heart, restore balance and essentially reset from the inside out!

I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to reset their mindset and step into intentional living, aligned with their values and purpose… and this magical retreat is designed to provide people with the powerful tools and practices that will help them create their best life –  practically and spiritually.

It has been carefully curated with a holistic approach, incorporating insightful workshops, inspiring group coaching sessions, individual transformational coaching sessions, relaxing 121 shiatsu massages, Sunrise/Sunset yoga, guided meditation and nutrition coaching and guidance. We have also made sure there’s plenty of time for that all important reflection and relaxation, together with a healthy dose of fun!

Located in the breath-taking surroundings of boutique hotel Leone in the heart of authentic Italy, this really is the perfect escape – surrounded by stunning views and peaceful surroundings, creating the perfect environment to nurture mind, body, and spirit.

During the retreat, people will be able to explore what’s truly important to them and why, to reconnect with their intuition and inner wisdom, and to cultivate a sense of trust and transformation within themselves. This experience is all about putting themselves first – finally!  – so they can return home feeling refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on the world!

The intention is also to create a safe and nurturing space so people can finally connect with them selves without the noise of the every day hustle around them ,as well as meeting like-minded people. Ultimately, re-connecting with who they really are at their core and tapping into their true potential and the limitless possibilities that awaits!

Tania: Question 8 – Is it possible for someone to turn themselves around in 5 days?

Rachael: While it’s true that deep and lasting mindset shifts often require ongoing effort and practice, a well-designed and immersive 5-day retreat can be a powerful catalyst for transformation. The focused, supportive environment and the opportunity to disconnect from daily distractions creates a space for individuals to dive deeply into their personal growth and development.

By engaging in our series of carefully curated workshops, coaching sessions, and experiential exercises, participants can gain new insights, learn new tools and techniques, and begin to practice new habits and behaviours. The retreat environment can also provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore and process their emotions, beliefs, and experiences, which facilitates deeper transformation.

While transformation is a process that often takes time, a 5-day retreat can be a powerful starting point and can provide a solid foundation for ongoing growth and development. With ongoing support and practice, the changes and insights gained during the retreat can continue to deepen and unfold over time, leading to lasting transformation.

Tania: Conclusion

Once again if you are keen to break through some limiting beliefs and reach the next level in your business or just find purpose and fulfilment in your life I highly recommend investing in yourself and finding yourself a coach like Rachael. It’s so important to invest in yourself, make time for a morning routine and a few beneficial healthy mindset habits.

Only you can find true fulfilment in life. It won’t just come to you.

Rachael: I totally agree. Investing in yourself is one of the most important things we can do for our personal growth and development.

Developing a morning routine can be a powerful way to start the day with intention and focus.

By investing in our own growth and transformation, we can create the life we truly desire and become the best version of ourselves. This requires a deep awareness of our own thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours, as well as a commitment to taking deliberate action towards our goals and dreams.

With consistent effort and practice, we can overcome the limitations that hold us back and create the reality that we truly desire. As the saying goes, “What you think, you become; what you feel, you attract; what you imagine, you create.”
